strip

Stage

a lie, find a cover up

a distraction, see a pain

complacency, simply air

with wind rushing past.

a friendly gesture, a want

to be heard. a moral argument

then check the purse that

got heavier.

a bubble burst, find rock bottom

with free fall not like the first one

but who is counting?

when the hysteria is hot

when the gloom is deeper than the heart

when the superficial

hides a soul that must be buried.

strip away the soul, find a mechanical

beast not unlike robots – maybe

that is why it is so very fascinating?

unfeeling, fake, just like the real

thing. what is it?

this heart not seen because

night is flitting, because our best

gestures are “how are you?”

then a nod, another small chit chat

while the cancerous growth

of unspoken words remain, i love you not.

then the rock bottom hits, face first

like cold water on hot summer

a dream peeled apart: a gesture

of a different kind, with all the underlying

mass plainly seen.

and now there was no where to run

no where to hide

no where to becoming another face in

the crowd.

this is me. this is you. with all the bows

and exchanges stopped.
