a devil’s prayer

Temple

let my voice be heard, for surely

this doubt, this reflection, this alternative

explanation – meets with a favored nod, a smile,

quite like love, when grace means keep your sins,

painted dolls tucked deep in a house

filled with dead flowers and weed.

hearken to the sound of my footsteps,

they’re like christmas bells: you always deserve more,

painted dolls giggle in their sleep, black pudding

burns in the oven, it’s just your imagination dear

chided the mentor to an earnest student seeking justification.

the conclusion is already made, now let’s find

a path that leads to the promised land!

a hint, a worrisome spell sends shivers,

but the devil knew better – offers an argument,

a rationale, that’s my forte.

then it all made sense to go further, deep into the

enchanted forest of many mist,

rainbows cast adrift: enemies become friends,

friends become lovers, lovers become baked in

an oven. hot. the spell is intoxicating. myriad.

there’s always an explanation for everything: sleep tight,

the devil makes a cozy pillow,

there is nothing to be afraid of – he is your wildest dream

come alive!

not that nightmarish thing they call goodness – where every

fork in the road is another disappointment,

hey it’s time to celebrate. take joy. don’t you deserve more?

and points a finger to the flower, the trees, even the pig

all tight as thieves, snoring, after a feast of feast

who wouldn’t want that?

labels, meanings, broken down to bits and bytes,

infused with lavender.

promising indeed, the dream becomes more florid,

more lucid, fervent callings from the other side:

and an angel of light brought forth a boat

to weather the hurricane. take comfort.

there’s no one else, and such light i could barely

open my eyes,

then the dances, the wine, the fever, the heat

it all melted even the coldest of hearts.

better than chocolate,

better than wine,

what’s there not to love?

and a man in a mirror stares upon a soul,

whose walk had always been tight,

tight as demons – angels

you know, there’s not much difference

between the two, save the light speech.

then the exit doors simply vanished,

a soul quite comfortable with all the dine,

chimes, reflections brought only a giggle,

a chuckle. that’s quite an adventure.
