grit

Choice

not what you wanted to hear,

not what is.

exactly what you too face,

haven’t you seen this thin ice cut into skin

so very thin?

grit, grin, groan, grating

away –

slice off another layer of dignity,

forget pride it must be a bad thing.

never question that labels

were simply plastered on our forehead

for all to see.

kick again, those with less

cannot fight back.

that was you yesterday,

then today you are strong!

forget that lesson, it no longer applies to you,

kick the under dog once you,

and tell your story

like the abuser who once had you in chains.

it is easy isn’t it?

to turn the tables when the winds have changed,

the sails are brought out,

sail away – into deep blue.

is it ocean or sky?

fathom not,

it no longer matters

when grit has become a cosplay

we both wear our masks,

till death apart, but it was not you a vow

was made too,

nah –

it was the ego, id and super ego

how convenient

while wearing that silly smile.

i love you.

i love you

i love you.

why don’t you just believe?

and then you saw it crack

didn’t you,

when it was you at the other

end … … scars bring back not memories.

best forgotten

you’re always number one,

what you did not realize,

is that it’s not unique,

it is human, all too human.

to be able to disguise a flaw as a compliment,

grit, grin, grating now –

the earth finally spews

forth lava.

we’ve all been there, at an upper hand

at a lower hand.

and earth unfortunately has to see

this drama!

spews forth a hundred lies,

disguised as truth and love.

love, love, love

why don’t you believe?
