the quick and easy, the shallow
convenient lies – drizzle
slaps/ sputters
dims, goes dark, a vacant room
how did it become so very cold?
icy stares in the closet, accusingly, intent
on pressing a point:
robotic, mechanical, it’s a job
you remember what it means to plough, to dig, you have to.
have to, must, got to
no choice – not so very fond memories now
rate me: the customers, the boss, the honcho dabbles with his handkerchief
pretends to wipe a tear … … i feel, i care, i *talk talk talk*
wait. a handshake, an agreement, sounds about right
till the power shifts without the skin being anything more.
it’s like a riddle, it’s like a morning sun suddenly gone dark
the prancing dear jumps across the window pane, a rabbit makes a dart
for a leaf,
a dog eyes your feet and tries to tackle what it sees as a challenge,
a child burst out laughing. what are you guys playing at?
and the quest shifted, a town emerged with laid back
dole eyed adults lazily humming songs,
with burying seeds for the season, with hanging out after work,
cooling off – getting real, just what normal humans do without
being tied up by –
have to, must, a detailed account of norms to be observed, calculative bets
pricing fades out – just a campfire glowing,
branches stepped on, a breeze, a forest scent,
here there is plenty to go around.
and even if there is not, the testing, the trials, the combats,
all led to a knowing, a face deeper than skin.
and an empty room becomes warm,
a body without a heart
finds life.
now isn’t that worth something?
