fallen fight, still a fighter
or damned soul no longer mercy bound?
the fool claims gluttony gone
when his stomach is full,
then the hunger comes the next day,
it becomes a roll of the dice
as narrations change with friends at dinner,
making gifts when congratulation is due.
the day starts up harsh, eases up
like waves receding when the hurricane
finally relents, when leviathan no longer thrashes
about, the sea king gives mercy to those who serve
though it is hard to fathom if loyal subjects
held back the moon, for surely he has no influence there!
aha, the poet cried, a muse
he plucked a flower from the jaded sun
having to rise each morning, even when it is the same
old journey: circling about, orbiting, eyeing,
prying into every action made, the bulb lights up
in one man’s head as he woke up from a nightmare
of leviathan chasing him, pulling him down the depths of the sea
and he rather not remember
it was another bout of eating too much.
another swearing, another promise, another agreement
of sorts to stay out of trouble
then the moon whispers to a heart longing for
release from the daily walk of have to.
i’ve changed said the man to the robot when
bites no longer slice up meat,
i’ve become a vegetarian, a lover of animals,
a nudge came about when waves threaten to knock him
off his feet, finding nothing below, kicking away at air
that piece of meat let go and he wailed when teeth grew back.
take that you filthy animal,
he cried and lamented on youthful days gone
down like his shit rushing into the pipes
of airway blocked while the sun continues to watch
the spectacle of a man humiliating himself.
change, the wise man asked?
of what, of a fighter or damnation,
or who, or place even
said the sea king who finally rid himself off
all the water and shook the flailing man from his dreams.
wake up, wake up
son the doctor said
when at last it has become quite apparent
that moon, sun, leviathan had all gone hiding back
from whence they came from
with a good dose of medicine, the man said good nite.
