to dance, surf on water
like dolphins chasing waves
that move just ahead, retreat
it would seem, then subside.
i made small chat with an acquaintance,
the night became morning
and still i went about in circles,
never going past the shoreline
for transactions is the name, though
a twist is often tried – an unfair advantage.
or so it would seem. to whom?
settling on a place, on a song note
i tried not to think or muse about days gone
for the morning sun has become a pale reflection
of better possibilities, the azure sky infinite –
appears to echo my foot tapping on hard wood.
what is time?
an invention of course, clocks to measure productivity
and what not. but time is a thief,
it keeps no score on the clock or sky,
immeasurable when death comes with a smile
or sneer.
closes the loop, end of time, does it matter?
endless waves cresting again on shorelines,
the line is not broken, the temple within
is far inland, without trails or road
for the insecure god is aloof only in a garden
he pretends is paradise.
it isn’t. he cares not.
not caring appears to work, the weeds grow tall,
no living beings breathe in this silent
castle, with moats and walls – traps
laden all around.
lessons need not be relearnt,
the god echoed back to his own reflection,
and a thousand blades of grass sighed,
enveloping those aching arms, his body
gently resting on placid earth.
a squirrel pops out of no where, the god laughs,
he cries and embraces
a life that is more than an acquaintance,
poured out it’s dear heart it did!
gave a nut, a berry, a treasure
that meant everything because like dolphins chasing
waves: this squirrel chased warmth, meaning, love.
it was such a quiet gesture,
then the illusion fell, god became man,
his defenses fell, he cried, he wept, he hugged
and it was only green grass all around, without walls
or barriers.
transactions?
it was never about that, not to the man and squirrel
unperturbed by time, clocks and chasing waves.
